PLAN & SET GOALS
The most important thing to do is to plan and set goals for the vacation. Determine what you want to achieve this summer. Whether it be to learn a new skill, explore a new place, spend time with family and friends, pursue a personal project, or anything else, figure out how to do that! Plan what you want to accomplish and set weekly goals for each month. Try to accomplish your goals by then, and maybe even more! Setting clear goals will give you direction and purpose and will allow you to better accomplish what you hope to achieve, rather than wasting away your summer in front of the TV.
PRIORITIZE ACTIVITIES
It’s important to prioritize activities during the summer. Make a list of activities and experiences you want to prioritize during your summer vacation. This could include many different things, such as traveling to specific cities or countries, participating in outdoor sports, attending music festivals or concerts, or simply spending quality time with family and friends during the warm summer days. Prioritizing which of these activities are the most important to you will help you allocate your time and resources effectively. If your main goal is to spend quality time with family or friends, then plan gatherings, picnics, and vacations with your loved ones. If your main goal is to travel to different places, then plan out a road trip or research flights to explore nearby cities.
CREATE A SCHEDULE
Another great way to embrace the great outdoors and prioritize your summer fun is to create a schedule. After identifying your goals for the summer and what activities go along with said goals, create a schedule or a rough plan for your summer vacation. Consider the length of your vacation and how many days you have off during the week aside from work and other important activities. Allocate specific time slots for different activities to spend time doing what you love without overexerting yourself just one month into your vacation! Stay organized and be sure to remember to include recharge time in the schedule. It’s important to make the most of your summer vacation, but also equally important to allocate some time for self-care, relaxation, and self-reflection.
EXPLORE LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Be sure that you don’t forget to explore local attractions as well. Traveling long distances across the world or even across the nation might not be feasible for the average Joe. Especially for those of us with work, internships, and other commitments at home, traveling far away might be a challenge. If that’s the case, then explore local attractions! Just take a day trip. Start off bright and early in the morning, and spend the whole day out with your friends or family and come back around dinner time. Go for a bike ride in Centennial Park or visit the Coca-Cola Factory. Visit local museums or art galleries to explore new pieces of history that you’ve never seen before. Take advantage of the warm weather and head down to a local lake, beach, or pool and play some outdoor games like volleyball or tennis. Spending time in nature and engaging in these activities with your friends and family is not only great for your physical health, but also your mental health!
