Podcasts are nothing new in our society. Nearly 41 percent of Americans over the age of 12 listen to podcasts monthly, and that percentage has only increased in the past couple of years.
It’s no surprise why podcasts are so popular. Over 2 million podcasts exist with topics ranging from dating advice to geopolitical tension, so you can find a podcast that touches on nearly any topic you want to understand.
It can seem daunting, trying to sift through all the options and find podcasts that speak to you, but really it’s just a matter of putting on a podcast and trying it out.
With that being said, here’s a list of podcasts to listen to broken down by category.
News and Politics
I will take this moment to add a disclaimer that bias exists in almost everything, and as listeners, we must strive to consume media from different perspectives and viewpoints to understand the full picture of news and politics in our world.

The Daily
Hosted by The New York Times journalists, this podcast takes complex current events and breaks them down into a narrative format that is easier to understand. Instead of focusing on all the top stories of the day, The Daily dives into one topic and expertly explains the issues present.
Each episode ranges from 20-30 minutes, so this is another good podcast if you want something short and sweet.
World Business Report
Produced by BBC, this podcast will give you a global perspective of business and finance news. Each episode, updated daily, examines international political trends and their impact on different nations’ economies.

Philosophize This!
To the average person, philosophy can appear dry, difficult to understand and at times, boring. However, podcast host Stephen West takes high level, dense philosophical concepts and transforms them into digestible narrative content. He expertly explains and conceptualizes philosophy for the average person without diluting the content itself.
Each episode ranges from 20-30 minutes and examines major philosophical concepts from well-known philosophers.
The Inforium
This is the go to podcast for college students or people in their 20s. Hosts Thomas Frank and Martin Boehme give honest advice about productivity, financial goals and overall personal development for young adults.

Technology
Analog(ue)
This podcast takes a human centered approach to examining technology. With technology being an integral part of our lives, it’s sometimes difficult to remember the human emotions and feelings that continue to exist.

If technology and the ever-evolving digital world frightens you, listen to this podcast and find relief that we’re still analog beings who strive for human connection. Maybe you’ll find that technology, with all its flaws and benefits, connects us on multiple levels.

This podcast takes four technology topics and discusses them within a 30-minute time frame. This self-proclaimed rapid-fire discussion of technology and business gives a general overview of the most relevant technology issues today. Because each episode is only 30 minutes long, you won’t grow bored or fatigued by dense tech talk.

The Tech Talks Daily

Honorable Mentions
You’re Wrong About
Each week Sarah Marshall and Michael Hobbes examine a historical figure who’s been misrepresented in history. They dive into why these figures were miscast in the public eye and work to unveil the truth behind their stories.
This podcast takes an interesting approach where each week, one host researches the topic they will discuss and the other comes in with little to no knowledge about the subject. They tackle the discussion with research and opinion to give a full view of the historical figure’s life.
Take a listen and maybe you’ll learn something new within the 50-minute podcast episodes.
