SATURDAY FOOTBALL IN ATHENS
Of course, it isn’t a weekend in Athens without watching the Dawgs play football on Saturday. Every other weekend there’s a home game, a must-attend event for every UGA student staying the weekend in Athens. Watching our number one champions play against other colleges while embracing school spirit is the best way to spend a Saturday afternoon, and attending tailgates and after game parties or events with your friends is the best way to end an epic day of watching our Dawgs win. There is no better thrill than dressing up in your red and black, grabbing a quick bite at Bolton Dining Hall, and heading to Sanford Stadium as excitement fills the air to see the Dawgs on the field.
DOWNTOWN BOUTIQUES
If football isn’t your thing, head downtown and you will find dozens of small shops and businesses selling all sorts of trinkets, UGA themed clothing, and more. On College Ave, you’ll find The Clubhouse and Tailgate, Athens’ one-stop shops for all UGA clothing and gameday essentials. Not needing any more Georgia gear? Stop by stores like High Country Outfitters for a large selection of clothing for the adventurous and outdoorsy types. Otherwise, you can pop into Impeccable Pig for girly, flirty, and glittery gameday outfits as well as seasonal outfits and accessories for all other times of the year. With this plethora of options, even the friends you have to drag out for a day of shopping will leave with their hearts satisfied and their bags full. TASTE OF ATHENS
After a long day of football watching and shopping on Broad Street, head to an Athens favorite to unwind and fill up your stomach. A common favorite is Taqueria Tsunami down on East Clayton Street, selling fusion Mexican and Asian foods. A blend of Eastern and Southern cuisine in their tsunami bowls is an inexpensive but filling way to satisfy all cravings on a night out. If you’d rather have something a little more traditional after a long day of watching college football, check out Clocked on West Washington Street for juicy burgers, seasoned fries, hot dogs. and grilled cheese sandwiches. Clocked also features a few vegan options, as well! Craving something sweet? Stop by Pauley’s Crepe Bar on East Clayton Street for a large selection of crepes, salads, sandwiches, and spirits. Satisfy your sweet tooth while still filling yourself up.
