6 Tips on Combining SEO and Social Media for Lawyers

Seo and Social Media May 25 2024

4.48 billion people use social media worldwide. Whether they’re using it for fun or for business, it’s clear that they’re spending a lot of time on the web. Are you using social media to your advantage?

SEO and social media are both important for your digital growth, but did you know that they can work together? We’re here to talk about it.

Read on to learn all about how to combine SEO and social media to get the most out of both.

1. Use Your Website Content on Social Media

You should already be creating content for your website. Whether it’s in the form of blog posts, videos, or any other type of useful content, you should consider also posting it on social media.

By posting your website content on social media, you’re getting more “bang for your buck,” so to speak. You’re broadening your audience and expanding your reach to people who may have never otherwise found your website.

On social media, you have access to a whole world of people. While not all of them are going to be your target audience, it’s never a bad thing to have more traffic to your website and more viewers in general.

There are some lawyers who utilize their content in such a way that they gain tens of thousands of followers on social media because their information is so valuable. Those people would never have found that content if it had just been stuck on the lawyers’ websites.

If you write a blog post, share it on your favorite social media platforms. You can even re-share it in the future if you don’t have anything scheduled to post one day.

2. Post on Multiple Platforms

It’s in your best interest to post on several platforms. You can re-use the same content on multiple platforms (though it’s a good idea to change it up), so it won’t add too much work to your digital marketing strategy.

Different social media platforms have different demographics. If you want to expand your reach, you need to try at least two platforms at a time.

Often, even if you have to tweak your content to work on multiple platforms, you only need to make small adjustments.

The more people you can reach with your social media posts, the more traffic you can direct back to your site. This directly impacts your SEO

3. Use a Clear Call to Action Every Time

When you make a post on social media, do you include a call to action? If not, you’re making a big mistake. Even if it seems obvious to you that you’d want viewers to click through to your website, contact you, or follow your social media page, your viewers may not do those things without receiving an extra boost from you.

Your call to action is that “boost.” So what should it look like?

It depends on your goals. Let’s say you’re trying to get more traffic to your website, but that traffic doesn’t necessarily need to be from clients. You’re just trying to boost your SEO with more page views.

If that’s the case, you may link back to your blog, that’s (hopefully) full of information that would be helpful to anyone who may ever need a lawyer. In your CTA, you may say something like, “Look at my blog for more helpful articles about [your area of law].”

Regardless of what you want your viewers to do, you need to state your intentions clearly and include links if it’s possible to do so. Make it as easy for them as possible.

4. Create Shareable Content

The content that you create and post should be shareable. For an attorney, this may seem difficult. Your content is niche and not “social media-friendly,” so why would people want to share it?

As we mentioned before, there are other attorneys with large social media followings. You’d be surprised at what the average person is actually interested in and what they’re willing to share.

Consider posting short videos alongside your long-form content. The videos should be snappy, informative, and easy to digest for the average person.

You should also focus on topics that are relevant either to the time that you’re posting or relevant to a large number of people. For example, around the holidays, you may post content about winter car accidents if you’re a car accident lawyer.

If people find your content helpful, they’ll share it. If they share it, you’ll expand your reach.

5. Be Consistent

When you’re posting on social media and when you’re posting content on your website, you need to be as consistent as possible.

First, be consistent in your branding. Yes, you’re an attorney, but your business is your brand. Your voice and image should stay the same throughout all of your content.

This lets viewers know what to expect and makes your brand more memorable.

You also need a consistent posting schedule. The posting schedule can vary between platforms. For example, you may post a new blog post once per week but post something new on Facebook three times per week.

Regardless of what your schedule is, do your best to keep up with it.

This one is simple, but it’s a good thing to keep in mind. Make sure that you link your social media platforms to your website and vice versa. This way, people know where to find you.

On social media, it’s helpful to use a link collector like LinkTree to assemble all of your links under one URL. On your website, you may want to have your social media information listed on your contact page.
