The winter is an unforgiving time for a lot of people’s physical and mental health. Your skin dries out, your sleep schedule changes, and the weather is just too cold! There isn’t much you can do to avoid these changes, but there are many essentials you can keep with you at all times during the winter to make this rough and cold season a little bit more bearable.
Puffer Jacket
The first essential is quite obvious, a puffer jacket. If you think back to your elementary school days when your mother would send you bundled up to school in a big puffer coat, your first move once reaching school is to shove that jacket into your cubby. After quite a bit of growing up, however, I think we can agree that all of our mothers had the right idea. Puffer jackets are lightweight but still keep you warm without causing you to feel suffocated or too hot inside. You can find an array of long, regular length, or cropped puffer jackets in many different sizes, color options, and pricing at Bloomingdales, Asos, and H&M!
Leg Warmers
Time to bring back the 80’s! Now I don’t know if that warrants celebration or panic for you, but I promise this is worth it. It’s a stylish and simple way to keep your legs warm when wearing loose pants or a dress/skirt. You can find short or long options in different colors to match your outfit. There are many inexpensive and cute options at Amazon, Target, and Nordstrom. If you’re feeling crafty, you can even make your own by following tutorials found on YouTube like the one here!
Portable Space Heater
If you’ve been cursed to live above the garage, or simply just have a room where the heating doesn’t fully circulate the room, a space heater is a great investment. It’s a quick and easy way to heat up your room. You can even leave shoes or socks in front of the heater to heat it up before wearing them! A Good Moisturizer
A good moisturizer (or maybe 2) is key to good skin in the winter. The cold air and low temperatures often dry out your skin, so it’s important to keep your skin moisturized, and reapply lotions as often as possible. I like to keep it simple with moisturizer and stick to products with aloe vera in it then add a thin layer of vaseline to keep my face moisturized. If that sounds like it might work for you, try it! Hat, Scarf, Gloves
If you were anything like me when I was younger, I would rather be caught dead in the freezing cold than bundled up in a hat, scarf, and gloves. Similar to the story with the puffer jackets, I did my best to avoid wearing these items. Finally, I learned these are great to keep you warm and also keep you from getting sick! Cold air constantly hitting your throat or nose is a sure fire way to get a nasty cold that will last you all winter long, so bundle up!
Heating Pad
Heating pads are not just a necessity for cramps and back pain. It’s also a great way to keep yourself warm and cozy during the cold winter months! Keep it near your bed to warm yourself up before falling asleep and in the mornings when you wake up to below freezing temperatures! Be sure to stay warm and safe this winter season!
