Exercises You Can Do Outside of the Gym

Exercises You Can Do Outside of the Gym

It is recommended that you spend an average of 30 minutes exercise per day. It is important to do this in order to keep your mind and body healthy as well as maintain your weight. Many people resort to joining a gym for daily exercise and while gyms can be very convenient, there’s one large downside to working out in one — the crowd.

Unfortunately, unless you’re one of those people who can get up at 5 am to get a workout in, you are probably heading to the gym after class or work. Peak gym hours are around 5 pm till 7 pm. This means if you are going at the end of the day, you are probably waiting for machines and are doing exercises around a lot of people, which can be uncomfortable. If you want to find other forms of exercise that don’t require a gym, you are in the right place. This article will talk about exercises you can do outside of the gym.

Yoga

Yoga is a form of exercise that requires a lot of stretching and deep mind-to-body connection. Many spiritual people participate in yoga because of its deep ancient history. Whether you prefer the spiritual or physical properties of yoga, integrating it into your daily routine can help clear your mind, improve your flexibility, and tone your muscles. This exercise is especially good for those who don’t enjoy high-intensity workouts and prefer something slower-paced.

If you are considering yoga, there are many different kinds to choose from with different primary focuses. Some target your spiritual side, some prioritize your breathing, while others center on the stretches. Two common types seen in the United States are Hatha yoga and Vinyasa yoga. Once you have found which type of yoga you prefer, you can then choose how you practice yoga. You can do yoga in a studio, on the beach, on a mountain, in your home, or anywhere there is space. You can even do something called hot yoga which is when you purposely practice yoga in a room with heat and humidity. What’s great about yoga is that it is easy to customize it to each individual’s preference.

Pilates

Pilates is very similar to yoga because both focus on stretching and mental connection. The key difference is that in yoga, positions are held, whereas, in Pilates instead of positions, each exercise is a repetitive movement. If you are thinking about practicing Pilates, here are some things you should know.

While Pilates can be done without equipment, it is recommended that you use the equipment for an effective exercise. If you do not want to purchase equipment, many studios allow you to use their equipment. Pilates is a low-impact exercise which means you most likely aren’t going to break a sweat while doing it. The main focus is strengthening your flexibility and muscles. One big benefit of Pilates is that it allows you to target certain muscles that you want to work on. While the core is commonly worked the most in Pilates, all body parts are moved. Additionally, if you are recovering from an injury, Pilates may be a good form of therapy for you. Many people practice Pilates for this reason but be sure to consult a doctor first.

Walking

Walking is commonly disregarded when people are considering exercises but it is a great way to get a workout without putting too much stress on your joints. Possibly the best benefit of walking is that it can be done anywhere. If you are a college student, you can walk around campus. If you live in a neighborhood, you can walk around the block. If you live near a track, you can walk there. As long as it is done safely, you can walk wherever you are.

If you decide to start walking, some benefits you can enjoy are reduced cravings, increased immunity, and weight loss or weight management. Not only can it be a great workout for your body, but walking can help you relax too. It can be a time to reflect on your day and focus on your thoughts without any distractions.

If you are looking for a way to get some exercise without having to fight the crowd at the gym, here are three different exercises you can try to incorporate into your daily schedule. Have fun and enjoy your workout!
