Regardless of where you live in the United States, almost every part will experience some form of harsh and dangerous winter weather. Not every city and state will experience snow and ice, but freezing temperatures and cold winds are still a dangerous experience for all drivers. It’s important to keep your car stocked with all the essentials you might need in case your car breaks down, something freezes up, or you get stranded somewhere in the cold and your car is unable to turn on! This is just a list of a few essentials, but you can always personalize this to your liking to fit the climate that you live in!
Thick Blanket
A thick blanket is always an essential during the winter, so don’t forget to add one to your car during the colder months. Unfortunately, car breakdowns or your car not starting are common during the winter, and without the warm air from the heater flowing through the car, you might start to get a little chilly. A blanket is great in dire situations like that, but also useful in times where you or a passenger just feels cold in the middle of a drive!
Portable Charger
A portable charger is also a great addition to keep in your car during the winter months. To be completely honest, it’s a great item to have in your car at all times of the year, but more so during the winter. Like I mentioned before, your car breaking down or getting stranded is far more likely in a season with snow and ice. Worst case scenario, you need to call for help but your phone’s almost dead, you’re prepared with a portable charger like the one here!
Non Perishable Snacks + Water
Once again, you have to think of the worst case scenarios. God forbid you get stuck in your car for a long period of time and are unable to access any nearby restaurants or shops, you’re ready with water and snacks to tide you over for a while. These snacks and water will also come in handy if you have any kids or child-like friends who could also use a snack to calm them down on longer car rides.
Extra Gloves
The winter time and cold temperatures will do a number on your car, including freezing parts of your car on the outside or inside. Oftentimes you’ll get inside your car just to find the steering wheel freezing and basically untouchable. Keeping an extra pair of gloves in your car (or just a pair if you don’t often wear them/find any use for them), can help you continue to drive without your hands feeling numb from the cold. Another great idea is to invest in a steering wheel cover to keep the wheel warm overnight.
Ice Scraper
An ice scraper is almost always a necessity during the winter, particularly for those in the northern states where snow is almost a weekly occurrence. Sometimes, even just leaving your car outside for less than a full day can cause ice to gather on your windshield, blocking your view and not allowing you to drive safely. Invest in a good quality ice scraper (like the one here) to never let that be a problem.
Jump Starter
A mini jump starter is also a car essential (regardless of weather and temperature), but even more so necessary in the winter. If in any situation your car needs to be jump started because the battery died, and there’s no one around to help, you can get a little handy and do it yourself! Find a small one here that includes a lithium jump starter box, a car battery booster pack, a portable charger, and jumper cables.
Stay warm and safe this winter season!
