As the world emerges from the end of the brutal winter season, the springtime presents the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate your body and your mind with a new wellness routine. Below are some tips to help you embrace this new season of renewal and cultivate a healthier and happier lifestyle.
OUTDOOR EXERCISE
The best way to take advantage of the longer hours and warmer weather is to move your workouts outside. Whether it’s a brisk walk in the park, a jog along a nearby trail, or even a yoga session in your backyard, exercising in nature has many advantages. It can help to boost your mood, reduce stressors, and increase energy levels. Exercising outside will also help you to better connect with nature. Spend time outdoors with the natural world around you by gardening, hiking, or even just sitting under a tree and soaking up the sunshine around you.
SEASONAL FOODS
Be sure to nourish your body with seasonal foods. Spring brings an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that are finally in season. These fresh fruits and veggies are bursting with flavor and nutrients. Incorporate seasonal produce such as strawberries, asparagus, spinach, and peas into your meals to support your body’s natural detoxification process and promote overall health. Be sure to also stay hydrated, because as temperatures rise, your body needs more water to support its functions and keep your health in tip-top shape. Keep a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day and infuse it with fresh herbs or fruits for added flavor and more hydration and nutritional benefits!
MINDFULNESS AND STRESS REDUCTION
Spring is a time of growth and renewal, which makes it the perfect time to cultivate mindfulness and reduce stress. Try to incorporate practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or journaling into your daily routine to help promote mental clarity, relaxation, and overall emotional balance. This will lead to a better overall outlook on life, better mental health, and in turn, better physical health too. Be sure to also prioritize sleep this spring, as well. With the arrival of spring and longer daylight hours, it might be tempting to stay up later and soak in the extra daylight, but quality sleep is very important for your overall well-being. Try to aim for at least 7-9 hours of good sleep each night by establishing a relaxing bedtime routine and sticking to it.
SELF CARE AND SELF INTENTIONS
Schedule regular self-care practices in the springtime too. We place a lot of emphasis on self care in the winter time when the weather is moodier and seasonal depression runs rampant, but just because the sun is out doesn’t mean to stop with the self care! Carve out some time for activities that nourish your body, mind, and soul. Indulge in bubble baths, treat yourself to a massage, or practice hobbies you love. By prioritizing activities that bring you joy and relaxation, you will feel much more at ease. Be sure to also set intentions for the season, so reflect on your goals, aspirations, and areas of focus and create plans to turn those dreams into reality.
