Green Day’s Headlining Performance at Shaky Knees

On the first night of the three-day Shaky Knees music festival in Atlanta’s Central Park, Green Day garnered a huge crowd for their headlining performance.

Green Day was the first headliner to take Peachtree Stage on Friday night, starting promptly at 9:20 P.M. and ending an hour before midnight.

Green Day’s concert brought nostalgia to the crowd as they performed all of their popular classic hits throughout the set.

The band started with one of their biggest hit songs, “American Idiot”, which is Green Day’s second most popular song on Spotify with over 610.4 million streams

Directly after the song ended, Green Day shifted the audience’s attention away from their music and toward supporting those in Ukraine.

“Keep the people of Ukraine inside your hearts tonight. It’s a different kind of bravery that Americans have never had to do in the last 75 years,” said lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.

It is not shocking that Green Day used the stage to gather support for Ukraine since the band has been very vocal about the crisis on Twitter and has contributed to Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine campaign

Armstrong then led the crowd in a chant screaming “Ukraine”. This chant eventually merged into their second song of the night, “Holiday”, making the crowd go wild.

Shortly after that song ended, Green Day asked the crowd for a volunteer and brought a young boy on the stage to help perform “Know Your Enemy”.

It is safe to say that will be a memory the boy will never forget.

The band continued to play popular hits for the crowd to sing along to, including “Pollyanna”, “Welcome to Paradise” and “Still Breathing”.

In the middle of their set, Green Day paid a tribute to Kiss by covering their song “Rock and Roll All Nite”. While playing the tambourine, one of Green Day’s members even had on Kiss’s iconic makeup for the song.

After thrilling the audience with performances of “When I Come Around” and “21 Guns”, Green Day once again brought two more guests on stage.

But this time, one of the guests was no stranger to the band.

After letting an audience member play guitar with them during a cover of Operation Ivy’s “Knowledge”, they brought out a special performer.

Armstrong’s son, who goes by Jakob Danger, joined him on stage to play guitar during “She”. Ironically, this was not the first time Danger took the stage that day since his band, Ultra Q, performed earlier that evening.

Near the end of the night, Green Day had everyone in the crowd dancing along to a cover of The Isley Brother’s song “Shout”.

The band continued to perform more iconic songs, playing “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, “I Don’t care”, “Jesus of Suburbia” and “Dearly Beloved”

After the encore, confetti exploded and fireworks illuminated the Atlanta skyline as Green Day brought the night to an end with a performance of “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)”.
