Now I know we aren’t Georgia Tech fans so we don’t live in the glory days of our past from five decades ago, but, on occasion, it is fun to take a stroll down memory lane and reminisce about our glorious past. So, join me today as we take a look at past UGA sports moments that took place on September 15th.
September 15th in UGA Football History:
9/15/1973 : Our Dawgs fought hard for a 7-7 tie against Pitt on this day. Pitt actually would have ended up winning but they missed a field goal in the 4th quarter and our Dawgs just barely avoided losing.
9/15/1979: Our Dawgs barely lost a nail biter 22-21 to Wake Forest on this date. We were ranked 12th in the nation and Wake Forest was unranked so this game was quite a disappointment.
9/15/1990: Our Dawgs barely scraped out a 18-17 win against Southern Miss. There is not much else information regarding this game other than the close game.
9/15/2007: UGA cruised to a 45-16 win against Western Carolina. Apparently the week prior, our offense had been shutout for the first time in 6 years. After only being able to score 3 points in the first quarter, Matthew Stafford and the Dawgs turned it up and went on to dominate the rest of the game.
9/15/2012: In a 2012 football game v.s Florida Atlantic, our Bulldogs dominated in a 56-14 win. Not only did we dominate on the scoreboard, but we also filled up the stats sheet. UGA compiled a whopping 713 yards of total offense in that game – a school record to this day. Former QB Aaron Murray also passed for his college career high of 342 yards in this very same game. So September 15, 2012 certainly was a day to remember and commemorate in the UGA sports saga.
Since 1979, UGA has only played 5 games on September 15th, with a record of 3-1-1. That’s not bad despite the one loss being to an unranked Wake Forest team. Fortunately, it seems that recently we have been enjoying a trend of winning in total blowouts on September 15th as seen by our dominant wins over Florida Atlantic and Western Carolina. Overall, September 15th has treated our Dawgs pretty nicely – a trend we hope continues into the future. Anyway that’s all for now. As always, GO DAWGS!
