My UGA Bucket List

What’s college if you’re not spending your time making crazy memories and capturing these moments? You might think that spending four years in Athens may seem like a boring couple years, but guess otherwise! The University of Georgia has plenty of traditions and customs that you MUST do at your time here at UGA.

Jump Into Herty Fountain

You aren’t a true University of Georgia student until you’ve celebrated your freshman year by jumping into the foundation on North campus. Herty field (where the fountain is) used to be a football field and then served as a parking lot. Circa 1999, they renovated again and changed it into a large public plaza with greenery and a fountain in the center. 

Eat At All 5 Dining Halls

UGA features give diverse dining halls with all types of cuisines. You can find traditional burgers at Bolton’s Grill and Mexican bowls and quesadillas at O-House’s O-Hacienda. You can get midnight breakfast at snelling and all sorts of other fruits and yogurt. Once you get tired of eating at the big three on main campus, head to east campus and try out Village Summit, where you can find sushi and mini personal pizzas. You can even head to one of the further corners of campus to The Niche and order freshly made burgers and sandwiches. You cannot complete your four years at UGA without attempting to eat at each of these dining halls at least once!

Go To A Saturday Football Game

What’s UGA without football? You can’t say you went to the University of Georgia without attending a Saturday football game at Sanford Stadium. The good news is, as a freshman, you’re guaranteed a full fall season pass to each game. As you get older, oftentimes you’ll be given a half set of tickets. The biggest advantage is that you get these tickets for $10, whereas in reality they go for over $200 sometimes! Sign up to receive tickets, dress up in your finest black and red, and head down to Sanford with your friends in tow!

Ring The Chapel Bell

Along with jumping in Herty Fountain, don’t leave without finding the Chapel Bell and ringing it! You can ring it whenever you want, like when you finished a final for a class or received that internship you were hoping to get. You can even just head there with a few friends and ring it together!

SNELLEBRATE

One of the best parts about living on campus is having easy access to dining halls. Sadly, most of them close after 9-10 pm, but Snelling stays open all day during the week! After a rough week of midterms or finals, a long day of presentations, or even just a regular school day, go to Snelling after 12 am for midnight breakfast! You can get donuts, hash browns, bacon, eggs, cereal, and more! Snellebrate your successes and celebrate at Snelling by eating to your heart’s content. 

Go Visit The Georgia Museum Of Art

Another very cool building on campus that is easily accessible with UGA’s bus system is the Georgia Museum of Art. The museum is on Carlton Street, not far from the University Health Center. The museum features dozens of modern and contemporary pieces of art that students of any major and study can appreciate. They even host events every week that you can attend with your friends. The best part? It’s free for all attendees!
