Did you know that your child’s creativity will reach its peak around the age of 6? That means they only have six years to explore and discover art before their creativity starts to decline… and continues to decline as the years go on. During this time, it’s extremely important that your child discovers what they are interested in, their potential passions, and what they enjoy doing! It’s your job as a parent to encourage this behavior. Much of this exploring can be done through exploring art.

One of the best ways to promote creativity in your household for your children is by introducing them to creative arts.

Since a child’s creativity maxes out around 6 years old, they are still developing physically. This means that discovering art at this age can actually help them physically.

Art for children often involves crayons, tape, glue, scissors, pieces of paper, and many more materials that they have to navigate. By figuring these materials out, they are developing their finer motor skills.

If they want to glue a piece of paper onto another piece of paper, they need to have the patience and fine motor skills to do so. Cutting a piece of paper also involves a certain amount of concentration of holding the scissors on a line and moving your fingers in a way to do so.

The more they practice, the better they’ll get as their physical development improves!

Improve and Maintain Mental Health

One of the benefits of art for kids is that it can improve their mental health, and even maintain it.

Since art can be a vehicle for emotion, discovering artistic talent at a young age can give them that emotional outlet that they may need in the future – or even at the moment. If art becomes their outlet as a young child, it will most likely continue to be that as they grow up. They will always have it to turn to emotionally.

As a child, many have rules and routines that keep them on a regimented schedule. There are not many problems they have to solve on a daily basis, so this part of their brains doesn’t develop easily.

However, with art, children have the freedom to do whatever they want with it. A child can draw, paint, or write whatever they want. They get to let out whatever is in their mind or body – but it may not come out exactly how they were thinking it would.

If they want to make something better (or if something doesn’t turn out how they imagined it), they will have to solve the situation themselves. They can try again and work out the kinks. As they learn this skill, they will then be able to apply it to other situations in life as well.
