3 Craft Ideas for Recreating Farm Machinery

There are plenty of exciting ways to teach kids about farms besides just reading them a book or talking to them. One fun way is to do farm machinery crafts to incorporate art into their farm learning. Here are some craft ideas involving farm machinery to help get your children excited to learn about farms!

Popsicle Stick Tractor

Here is an easy-to-follow craft that your kids are sure to enjoy! While making the tractor, have a conversation about what a farmer does and how they use a tractor.

Supplies you will need:

• Jumbo popsicle sticks
• Green craft paint
• Paintbrush
• Glue
• Black, yellow, and white cardstock paper
• Scissors

Directions:

1. First, grab your jumbo popsicle sticks and lay five next to each one by one on a flat surface.
2. Next, grab five more popsicle sticks and glue them across the other popsicle sticks horizontally to make somewhat of an L shape.
3. Once all the popsicle sticks have been glued together, set them aside to dry completely.
4. After the popsicle sticks have dried, paint them green.
5. Cut out one large black circle, one medium yellow circle, one medium black circle, and one small yellow circle.
6. Make wheels by glueing the medium yellow circle onto the large black circle and the small yellow circle onto the medium black circle.
7. Next, cut out a white square and a black T.
8. Finally, glue the wheels and other tractor features on the tractor like in the picture.

Peek-a-boo Barn Craft

You can’t make farm crafts without constructing a barn! This craft involves a lot of drawing and colouring and is perfect for your artistic child.

Supplies you will need:

• Red, black, and green construction paper
• Glue
• Scissors
• Crayons

Directions:

1. Draw out a red barn on green construction paper. You can add some details to the barn by drawing a black roof and a window on the top.
2. Then on the white construction paper, draw a few farm animals and a tree to put next to the barn. If you find drawing out the animals or barn too tricky, you can always find graphics online and print out the images instead.
3. Cut two rectangles out from the red construction paper for the barn doors. Glue a small strip down the far sides of each rectangle and place them onto the barn you drew so that you can make barn doors that open.
4. Lastly, cut out the animals you drew and paste them inside the barn so you can see them when you open the doors. Then paste the tree you drew next to the barn.

Cardboard Tractor

Here is another tractor craft that is a little more challenging and perfect for your older children. Pro tip: draw out all the shapes onto the cardboard first to make it easier to cut out!

Supplies you will need:

• A large piece of cardboard
• Red and black craft paint
• Scissors and a strong glue

Directions:

1. Cut out a rectangle from the cardboard along with 4 circles, one small, two medium, and one large.
2. Then cut out a small L-shape from the cardboard and five small sticks about an inch in length.
3. Cut small groves into the biggest circle to add tracks onto the largest tire.
4. Next, time to paint! Paint the rectangle, the small circle, and one of the medium circles red. Paint the other medium circle, large circle, five small sticks, and the L shape black.
5. Trim a small strip off the top of the rectangle about halfway through.
6. Finally, it is time to assemble. Glue the small red circle onto the medium black circle for the front tire. Glue the medium red circle onto the large black circle for the black tire. Make a T with two of the small sticks for the steering wheel and glue it where the cut-out at the top of the rectangle is. Glue the rest of the small sticks down the centre of the rectangle and the L shape at the top of the rectangle. Assembling the tractor can seem complicated, but it’s a lot easier if you look at the photo and go based on that.
