PINSTRIPES
When you think pinstripes, you might immediately think circus, but we’re not talking about that. Well, yes we are, but in a completely different element. In general, a pinstripe design refers to the application of a very thin line of paint or fabric to create a faint and thin line, known as a pinstripe. This design is seen often on formal blazers and pants, but is slowly becoming a fall and winter staple. Adding an oversized pinstripe blazer on top of an outfit is a sophisticated and timeless way to class up a basic fall outfit. Pinstripe dresses and skirts are also a great fall staple and even give off the illusion of extra height. If you think pinstripe clothing might be too bold, try dipping your toe in the water with pinstripe outerwear that you can remove or other fun accessories like hats and bags. The combinations are endless!
CORDUROY AND PLAID
Corduroy and plaid are absolute staple patterns and fabrics during the fall. A pair of corduroy pants or skirt with a plaid sweater and scarf is a fall staple, and probably will continue to be one for years. They are both extremely versatile patterns and fabrics, so don’t be afraid to mix them for a cohesive, comfy look. They both have very distinctive textures and features, so balance them out by choosing one (either corduroy or plaid) to be the focal point of your outfit and then the other fabric as a supporting element, so as not to be too distracting. Layering the two fabrics is also an easy and effective way to incorporate both elements without being too excessive. A plaid blouse under a corduroy jacket or blazer, for example, is a great way to layer without too much going on!
GRAY AND BLACK
In the colder seasons, we tend to stray further away from brighter colors and into muted tones, and how could you go wrong with gray and black? These colors are some of the most versatile, and investing in a capsule wardrobe with “boring” colors like these gives you the opportunity to mix and match more colorful and dramatic pieces throughout the season without buying a new outfit every week! You can create monochromatic looks by pairing together different shades of black and gray, looking elegant and put together without even trying. Adding black accessories is also a great way to elevate outfits, such as adding a black leather bag or belt.
LONG AND LEAN
Whether it be dresses, skirts, or pants, the longer, leaner, and flowier, the better! Adapting from its bohemian summer sister, expect to see much longer skirts and dresses this fall! Materials like corduroy and suede can be used, and other higher end materials like cashmere will be seen commonly in these. Some of these pieces might feature a slit or pleats for a bit more of an exciting element, but this will be a staple this fall. These are great layering pieces, as you can wear them under or over other fall pieces like scarves, boots, tights, and dramatic pea coats.
