Therefore, the two of them decided to split up. Rudolf kept Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik, while Adi went on to start up his own company.

In 1949, Adi Dassler registered “The Adi Dassler Adidas Sportschuhfabrik” and got to work with his 47 employees. To distinguish himself from the rest of his competitors, Adi adopted the three-striped logo on his shoes. Adidas really grew in popularity through the 1954 World Cup. The Hungarian national wore the Adidas lightweight boots and went on to win the world that year. Because of their success, Adidas’s stock grew, and they were featured in some international papers.

From then on, Adidas became a household name, and it was only a matter of time before it turned into the multinational corporate giant it is today. In 1967, Adidas finally started growing from a shoe manufacturer to an overall sports equipment producer. This was the year the Franz Beckenbauer tracksuit model had its debut and completely changed the game for Adidas. Over the years, Adidas kept growing bigger and bigger. A key ingredient that allowed the company to flourish was Adi Dassler’s personal interest in the needs and wants of the athletes wearing his shoes or apparel. He would sometimes even meet with athletes personally to discuss ways improvements could be made.

Adidas truly became a “multi-sports specialist” in the 1970s. Adidas developed the TELESTAR World Cup soccer ball, clothing for gymnastics, and mountain climbing shoes. As the years progressed, Adidas began making clothing and shoes that could be worn for everyday use.

Adidas has grown into a massive brand, amassing a $24.559-billion-dollar revenue from June 2021 to June 2022. The annual revenue for Adidas in 2021 grew by 10.83% from 2020. Adidas has thousands of items to choose from in its online and in-person stores. They sell running shoes, soccer cleats, workout shoes, sandals, slides, football shoes, casual shoes, sports apparel, and casual apparel for men, women, and children. Adidas has also done its best to be environmentally responsible by creating products with recycled materials and remaking older products. By 2024, Adidas has a goal of replacing virgin polyester with recycled polyester.
