5 Fall Crafts Preschoolers Will Love

Fall is right around the corner. Look no further for creative fall-themed crafts to get your kids excited about the new season! Fall is a fun time for families, from pumpkin carving to trick-or-treating. You can add to your child’s excitement with some easy crafts that can double as Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations.

Paper Plate Pumpkins

Paper plate pumpkins are the perfect activity for a younger preschooler as they require hardly any work and don’t make a huge mess! All you need is an orange paper plate, black and green construction paper, scissors, and a glue stick. First, you will draw a face shape on the black construction paper and steam on the green construction paper. Then let the child cut out the shapes and glue them on the paper plate. This craft is simple and perfect for your child who can’t sit still for a long time. It also does not require a lot of supplies. If you can not locate orange paper plates, you can always paint a white paper plate orange. You can also let your child add stickers to it if they want or make the pumpkin’s facial expressions silly.

Sponge-Painted Turkey

Here is a thanksgiving craft using sponges to paint the turkey’s feathers on a paper plate that kids will love.

Supplies:

• Paper plate
• Paint (preferably in fall colors like red, orange, and yellow)
• Sponge
• Brown and orange construction paper
• Googly eyes
• Glue
• Scissors

Directions:

1. Start this craft by cutting your sponge into thin strips.
2. Next, pour a small amount of each paint color onto a paper plate to make it easier to use.
3. Then let your child dab the sponge into the paint and onto the paper plate. Continue dabbing the paint and switching colors till the paper plate is completely covered.
4. While waiting for the paint to dry, go ahead and cut a body for the turkey from the brown construction paper. It does not have to be a complicated body shape for the turkey. Cutting a simple oval will work fine. Then go ahead and also cut a small orange triangle for the beak.
5. Next, have your child glue the body onto the bottom of the paper and the googly eyes and beak on top of that.

Now you have a fun, homemade thanksgiving decoration from your child to hang up in the fall!

Watercolor Fall Leaf Wreath

A watercolor fall leaf wreath is a cute craft that your child should have a blast while making.

Supplies:

• Watercolor paints in fall colors
• Watercolor paper
• Paper plate
• Glue
• Scissors

Directions:

1. Start by having your child paint several sheets of watercolor paper with fall-colored watercolor paints. To make it a little easier, you can wet the paper before they start to paint, so the colors blend easier.
2. After the paint has dried, outline leaves onto the watercolor sheets. You can grab some leaves from outside and trace them onto the paper to make it easier.
3. Once the leaves outline is done, have your child cut them out.
4. Next, have them cut out the center of the paper plate for the wreath form. Then they can use glue to attach the leaves to the wreath until the wreath is completely covered.

After these simple steps, you will have a pretty fall leaf wreath made by your child! If you wish to have it on display, you can always add a ribbon for hanging.

Coffee Filter Ghost Lollipops

These coffee filter ghost lollipops are easy and adorable! They make a fun Halloween treat for your child to bring to school or a friend’s house. All you need is round lollipops, coffee filters, small rubber bands, thin ribbons or twine, and a black marker. First, you will wrap three coffee filters over the lollipop and secure it with a small rubber band. Then tightly tie a piece of ribbon around the rubber band and fluff up the layers of the coffee filter. Last, use the black marker to draw a spooky face on the ghost. This fun activity is bound to be a hit with your preschooler and makes the cutest gift!

Painted Acorns

Painting acorns are the perfect craft for your not-so-arty child who might struggle with sitting for a long craft. Send them on a mission outside to collect as many acorns as possible. Once they return with the acorns, bake them at 170 degrees for a few hours to ensure all the little bugs brought in from the outdoors are dead, and the acorns are easier to paint. After the acorns have cooled off, set up some acrylic paints and brushes and let your child get to work painting them! After the paint has dried, you can collect the acorns and put them in a cute vase or mason jar to put on display.
