The holidays are a great time to relax and enjoy your family’s company. If you’re struggling to come up with ideas for how to spend your time, keep reading as we discuss five holiday crafts you can do with your family.
No Sew Fleece Blanket
What better way to spend the holidays than curled up together under a blanket that your family created? This is a great way to spend an hour or two, and will bring smiles to your family for years to come. This blanket can be a great gift to family members or even something to donate to a local shelter.
All you need to do is get two pieces of fleece fabric. It doesn’t really matter how big you make it, but when you are measuring, make sure you add 6 inches to each side in order to account for the trimming you will do later on.
Once you have the two pieces, lay them on top of each other with their good sides facing out. Trim them to approximately the same size, but you don’t have to be exact.
Then take a ruler and measure and cut out a 6-inch square on all of the corners. The cut 6-inch slits at 1 inch intervals on each of the sides. Then the fun part! Knot the fringes together to make your cozy blanket.
Popsicle Stick Wreath
This is an adorable craft for your home that is fun to make, but also a perfect holiday decoration to add to your house. Grab some popsicle sticks and paint them at least three shades of green. Then layer them in an overlapping pattern, mixing the different shades altogether. For a final touch, add a festive ribbon at the top.
Paper Snowflakes
Do you want a gorgeous paper snowflake without all of the cut out paper scraps littering the floor? This craft is perfect for you.
First, you want to grab 6 pieces of paper, and cut them into a square. The easiest way to do that is by folding the top corner over diagonally until it meets the opposite edge. Then crease the fold and cut off the excess. Keep the paper folded and then fold it again in half so you have a right triangle.
Once the paper is folded, you should see an edge with one crease and an edge with two. Starting at the two creases, cut three equally spaced vertical slits towards the single crease. Leave about half an inch gap between the cut and the edge.
Unfold the paper, and starting at the innermost flaps, fold the edges together. Glue or tape them together. Then take the next flaps, and fold them in the opposite direction. Continue folding and taping each of the flaps in opposite directions until you finish all of them. Repeat on all six pieces of paper.
Once all of them are done, turn them so they are all facing the same direction. Starting with two, glue or staple them at the bottom and then where their sides touch in the middle. Repeat until all are connected together.
Then you have completed this beautiful snowflake.
Pine Cone Christmas Tree
This craft is the perfect miniature tree that can be placed on mantles, bookshelves, or your holiday table. All you need is some pine cones, green spray paint or regular paint, wine corks or bottle caps, hot glue, and any decoration you want to add like beads for ornaments, a star tree topper, or glitter.
Paint the outer edges of the pine cone and let it dry. Then paint the bottle cap or cut the wine cork in half and hot glue it to the bottom of the pine cone. Once it is dry, go crazy with the decorations for that final touch.
Toilet Paper-roll Snowmen
What says the holidays more than snowmen when it snows? However, when snow cannot be found outside, here is a perfect alternative for your family to make.
Grab some toilet paper rolls, white paint, permanent marker, googly eyes, and any decoration you want to add like twigs, pom-poms, buttons, ribbon, pipe cleaners, and of course glitter.
From there, paint the rolls white, and then add the faces and decorations. You can add hats, scarves, noses, funny faces, arms, etc. Be as creative as you can; the sky is the limit!
No matter what you do together, it is important to spend time with your family, have fun, and make awesome memories.
