5 Easy Pumpkin Crafts You can Make at Home with your Children

Fall is such a wonderful time of year, and what is a more iconic symbol of fall than the pumpkin? Look at almost any neighborhood, and you will find carved pumpkins littering the doorsteps. However, as fun as carving a pumpkin is, it can be messy, especially with kids. That doesn’t mean that you have to skip the pumpkin festivities entirely. Here are some great alternative pumpkin crafts that are an excellent way to spend time with your kids.

Pom Pom Pumpkins

This craft is a beautiful and fun statement piece that everyone will enjoy making. They are great decor for any room of the house and will bring a pop of color. All you will need is different colors of yarn, a metal cookie sheet (or any other sort of board), scissors, and a few sticks for the stems.

All you need to do is use the cookie sheet or board to create the large pom pom, which will serve as the base of the pumpkin. Then place the stick in to serve as the stem. Overall, it is very simple, but the kids will love picking out the different colors and seeing the piece come together.

Beaded Pumpkin

This pumpkin is great for small kids because all you need is some beads (preferably orange) and pipe cleaners. Kids love anything to do with stringing beads, so this is an ideal way to keep them focused on a festive task and work on their fine motor skills.

It is a simple project; all you need to do is twist the pipe cleaners together at the base so that they are laying out like a star. Then allow your kids to string all of the beads. After that, curve all of the pipe cleaners so you can twist them together at the top. For a finishing touch, add a stem and a few curled green pipe cleaners for the leaves.

Yarn Pumpkin

This is a great and inexpensive pumpkin craft. All you need is some yarn (orange would probably be best, but never stifle creativity), liquid glue, balloons, and pipe cleaners.

The first step is coating your yarn with the glue. This can be a bit messy, but a helpful tip would be to grab a ziplock bag and snip a small hole in one of the corners. You want this hole to just barely fit the yarn through. Once the hole is cut, feed the yarn through, and then fill the bag with the glue and seal it as much as possible. This will keep the glue in a contained place while also removing the excess from the yarn.

Continue to feed the yarn through the hole and then begin wrapping it around the balloon. The glue will dry, and once you pop the balloon, it will leave a perfect pumpkin behind so you can add a pipe cleaner stem and leaves.

Toilet Paper Pumpkins

If you are looking for something a little less like a traditional orange pumpkin, this one is perfect for you. These pumpkins come in all sizes, colors, and shapes. You also only have to use items already laying around your house, and it can be done in only a few minutes! All you need is some toilet paper rolls to serve as a base, some extra cloth (which can be wash clothes, t-shirts, or fabric scraps), and a few sticks.

Start with your toilet paper roll, and wrap a piece of fabric horizontally around it that is approximately the same size as the toilet paper roll to give it that iconic rounded shape. Then take another piece of fabric and wrap it vertically, either through the center or just tuck the ends in. Finally stick the stick in the top for the stem.

Pumpkin Stress Balls

While fall is a season filled with fun things to do, sometimes you and your kids need to relieve some stress, which is where this craft comes in.

Take an orange balloon and draw cute pumpkin faces with a permeate marker. Then fill it with rice or flour, and tie it off.
