With the warm weather and extra time that summer brings, this is the perfect time to read a book!
According to Urban Writers, the crime and thriller genre is the second most popular book genre after romance.
There is a reason the genre is so popular since it always keeps readers on the edge of their seats!
These are three books I’ve read this summer that I highly recommend! I have a warning though, these books contain graphic content and were written for adults.
“Verity” by Colleen Hoover
Imagine that you are a struggling author and are offered the opportunity of a lifetime.
Lowen Ashleigh couldn’t say no after a husband approached her about filling for his best-selling author wife who was injured and unable to finish it.
In order to write Verity’s next book, Lowen had to do her own research.
While reading through Verity’s outlines and files in her office to figure out what to write, she finds an autobiography that was never published.
On top of this autobiography starting to raise concerns about Verity, Lowen tries to navigate her feelings for Verity’s husband Jeremy.
I promise you the plot twists throughout this book make it almost impossible to put the book down.
“Look What You Made Me Do” by Elaine Murphy
I ended up finishing this book within 24 hours of starting it because I was so sucked into the plot.
Carrie Lawrence is a typical girl craving a normal life. Meanwhile, her sister Becca does not.
Since she was a young girl, Becca fought against her dark urges to hurt others but she eventually gave in.
Unfortunately, Carrie was talked into helping Becca bury her first body which now makes her an accessory in murder.
Now, she is forced to continue helping her psychopath sister but it turns out there is another psychopath in town.
When police find several dead bodies that Becca claimed she had nothing to do with, the realization hits them that there is another serial killer living among them.
I seriously cannot recommend this book enough!

“It’s Always The Husband” by Michele Campbell
This book is unique due to the way the story is told over time since there is about a twenty-year gap between the beginning of the story and the conclusion.
The story starts off about three freshman-year roommates sharing a dorm room together.
These roommates end up becoming best friends despite their differences.
Kate is spoiled, wild, beautiful and wealthy but comes from a broken family. Meanwhile, Aubrey is a financial aid student that comes from an equally toxic family.
Jenny is the clue between Kate and Aubrey, keeping both of them in line with her ambitious personality.
Twenty years later, they are all married and living completely different lives. Yet we find out that one of them is being told to jump from the edge of a bridge.
Why? Well, you’ll have to read to find out!
