As if you haven’t noticed yet, mobile phones and tablets are becoming quite popular.  In fact, by 2015 there will be more mobile devices in use than personal computers.

Each time a new iPhone is released, 10’s of millions of more devices are released into the market place.  In Q4 alone, Apple sold over 15 million iPads and Amazon sold an estimated 6 million Kindle Fire tablets.

Basically, mobile devices are huge – and growing faster than anyone can keep up with.

All of this is great news for the local and small business owners as more and more people are using their mobile devices to search for local business, products, and services.  And with millions of people using their mobile device to search for businesses, it only makes sense that a business would want to have a mobile website.

When it comes to a mobile website for a local and small business, there three key features that absolutely must be present in order to connect with a lead, customer, or prospect.  These three key features will, in my opinion, make the different between a prospect actually calling your business, or that same prospect moving on to one of your competitors.

3 Key Features Every Mobile Website Needs

1)  Auto detection of mobile devices

One of the most powerful features of the mobile websites we build here at Bipper Media is that the sites are designed to automatically detect when a mobile device is accessing the website.

This means, if someone accesses a website via a normal desktop or computer, then the normal website will load.  But if someone accesses that same website via a mobile device like an iPhone or an iPad, then the mobile website will load automatically.

All of this happens because in the normal website, we install a script that acts as a trigger to tell the mobile site to load whenever a mobile device is trying to access the site.

Pretty smart, huh?

I believe this is a key element for any successful mobile website because as a potential customer for your business, I’ll more than likely be frustrated if I have to manually tell your mobile website to load.  In fact, I probably won’t even take the time to manually load the mobile website – I’ll just move on.

So having a mobile website that will automatically detect when a mobile device is trying to access it, and then instantly load the mobile website, will dramatically increase the conversion rates of new leads, prospects, and customers.

Imagine how much more happy your prospects will be when they’re on a mobile device and your mobile website instantly pops up on their screen!  Yeah, this will definitely bode well for you and your business.

2)  Strong “About Us” Page

The next key feature that every mobile website should have – that is, if connecting to new leads, prospects, and customers is important to you – is a strong about us page.  This might not seem like the most important page in the world, at least not initially, because on most websites this isn’t the most popular page.

But on a mobile website, there’s a lot less going on – it’s not quite as busy if you will.  And having a strong “About Us” page can help your business build a more reputable connection with the person who just landed on your mobile website.

When building your mobile website “About Us” page, make sure you follow some of these simple, yet highly effective tips:

  • Break each paragraph into one or two sentences.
  • Don’t use run on sentences to describe yourself or your business
  • use bullet points to highlight products or services
  • be personable
  • put your name and contact info at the bottom of the page

These are some quick tips on how to build an effective “About Us” page for your new mobile website.  The bottom line is that your “About Us” page will become one of the most frequented pages on your mobile website, so you want to make sure it’s clear, concise, and effective at letting your prospects know that you are the right business for them!

3)  Push To Call Button

Alright folks, I saved the best for last.  The finally key feature that every mobile website absolutely must have is a push to call button that allows anyone looking at your mobile website to simply tab a button, and then instantly be calling your business.

The push to call feature of your mobile website is going to give the average visitor to your website a strong incentive to call your business.  After all, if they’re on your mobile website, more than likely they ended up there searching for a business, product, or service they needed

And if someone lands on your mobile website and is even remotely in the position of inquiring about your business, product, or service, then having a “Push To Call” button right there, staring the person in the face, can be the difference between generating a new customer or not.

Here’s an example of a great mobile website we built for Dr. Jack Singer.

Notice the “Call Now!” button that is at the top right of this mobile website.  This is a clear button that is easy to see, and even easier to use.  Anyone who lands on this mobile website is certainly going to understand how to quickly get in touch with Dr. Jack Singer, all in just one tap.

So those are the three key elements that I believe every mobile website should possess.  These key elements will help any business quickly connect to new customers, and generate new prospects and leads for their business.

Ultimately, what every local or small business desires is to get their phone ringing with new business.  If you follow these guidelines when building your mobile website, you should experience a much higher conversion rate with new customers.
